Splitting
Most people, when they hear "schizoid", assume you meant "schizophrenia", and there is that shared root: schiz-, which is Greek for split. For someone with schizophrenia, that split is with reality, and often will manifest through hallucinations. Those with schizoid personality disorder maintain a link to reality, but are instead cut internally: mind from body, thought from feeling, self from other. These stories, then, tend to have characters grappling with these kinds of schisms:
